Granville was presented with the long-service and outstanding development award by regional secretary Bill Adams at this year’s Yorkshire and Humber TUC annual general meeting in Bradford this weekend.
More than 120 delegates applauded as Granville received his certificate. In announcing the award at the start of the first day’s proceedings, Bill said:
“Granville has a vast knowledge of trade unions and a great network of union contacts.
“As a newspaper man, he is a keen advocate of press freedom and has been a leading figure in the Campaign for Press and Broadcasting Freedom from the outset.
“Granville has also helped found the Orgreave Campaign for Truth and Justice and his dedication has helped keep that Campaign in the headlines,” Bill Adams added.
“I’m really moved and really honoured,” said Granville. “Getting the gold badge from the NUJ and this from the union have been true highlights for me. “Being involved in the trade union movement has been a joy in my life and it’s about as far from being a chore as it can be.”
Granville is a member of the CPBF national council and co-ordinates the activities of CPBF North.
